PreProBono Weekend Program – Dartmouth College, Spring 2012

PreProBono wrapped up its slate of Spring 2012 weekend programs by visiting beautiful Hanover, NH on May 12-13. Though finals loomed large in the horizon, 13 students joined us at Dartmouth College’s Moore Hall to learn the ins and outs of the LSAT. After 16 hours of intensive instruction, they walked away with all of the tools they need to conquer the LSAT. Class was led by PreProBono Head Instructor J.Y. Ping (Harvard Law, J.D. ’10) and Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia Law, J.D. ’10).

PreProBono Weekend Program – Harvard Law School, Spring 2012

Despite it being finals season for the majority universities in the area, 18 students joined us in Harvard Law School’s beautiful new Wasserstein Hall for our seasonal Boston-area open program. We were pleased to learn that several students had actually traveled from out of state just to attend our program! 16 hours of intensive instruction later, our students had learned all of the tools necessary to attack the LSAT. Class was led by PreProBono Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia Law, J.D. ’10) and PreProBono Fellow James Ganley (NYU Law, J.D. Candidate ’15).

PreProBono Weekend Program – NYU Law School, Spring 2012

A whopping 48 aspiring prelaw students joined us for our second open program of the Spring, this time at NYU Law School’s Vanderbilt Hall, on April 21-22. Despite its size, the class ran smoothly, and after 16 hours of intensive instruction, these students had learned all the essential tools for conquering the LSAT. Class was led by PreProBono’s Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia Law, J.D. ’10) and PreProBono Fellow James Ganley (NYU Law, J.D. Candidate ’15). We were happy to welcome back Joy Wang (Harvard Law, J.D. ’10), who opened our students’ eyes to the world of public interest while speaking of her experiences at the Legal Aid Society of Manhattan.

PreProBono Weekend Program – Hunter College, Spring 2012

21 aspiring prelaw students in the CUNY system sacrificed the last two days of their spring break to join us at Hunter College West on April 14-15. After 16 hours of intensive instruction, they had learned all the essential tools for conquering the LSAT and received a healthy dose of law school admissions advice as well courtesy of Hunter College’s own prelaw advisor Elise Jaffe. Class was led by PreProBono’s Head Instructor J.Y. Ping (Harvard Law School, J.D. ’11), Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia Law School, J.D. ’10) and PreProBono Fellow Simmi Kaur (Hunter College, B.A. Candidate ’13). We were happy to welcome back Ryan Downer (NYU Law, J.D. ’08), who inspired our students with stories of his experiences at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. PreProBono Fellow James Ganley (NYU Law, J.D. Candidate ’15) also came by and shared his experience of the law school admissions process with our students.

April Fool’s Day and weekend-long grey skies notwithstanding, 32 aspiring prelaw students joined us at Fordham University’s Keating Hall for 16 hours to learn all the essential tools for conquering the LSAT. Class was lead by PreProBono’s Senior Instructor Jonathan Wang (Columbia Law School, J.D. ’10) and PreProBono Fellow, James Ganley (Hunter College, B.A. ’12). We were proud to have Anthony Kammer (Harvard Law School, J.D. ’11) inspire our students with stories of his experiences at nonprofit NGO Demos, particularly in the field of campaign finance reform and impact litigation.

This year we decided to celebrate St. Patty’s Day by providing the greatest LSAT weekend program of all time at Columbia University. Graciously hosted by Columbia Law School’s APALSA in the very swanky Warren Hall, 29 determined prelaw students joined us for 16 hours to learn all the essential tools for conquering the LSAT. We were fortunate to have the Rhodes Scholar, Harvard Law grad, and genuinely Good person Joy Wang inspire us once again with her candid exploration of the public interest world and some highlights from her experiences as a public defender at Legal Aid.

To the newest class of PreProBono Alums: stay on your studies, stay in touch, and stay true to your destinies. We’re all counting on you.

PreProBono Summer 2012 Internship Opportunities

PreProBono is looking for bright, enthusiastic, dedicated interns for the summer of 2012 who want to help us make our vision a reality. Interested in helping us out? Read on for all of the details!

The internship will run from Mid-June to Mid-August (dates flexible), with an opportunity to extend through the school year if desired. Interns will be expected to work standard 9am – 5pm office hours at least four days per week. Our office is located in midtown Manhattan, at 426 W. 54th St, 2nd Floor.

The intern’s duties will include:

Marketing: leveraging web-based social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) to draw greater traffic to the site; cultivating positive press for our growing network via various media channels/outlets.
Fundraising: facilitating and maintaining relationships with our donors.
Administration: general research, drafting correspondence, and performing general office duties.
Web Design and Coding (if applicable).

Our interns will work with a small team and gain experience in building an innovative nonprofit enterprise, all while making an impactful contribution toward equalizing access to higher education. We are happy to fill out internship or pro bono paperwork for school credit if necessary.

In order to be eligible for this internship, you must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher, and be a rising sophomore or above. If you meet these qualifications and are interested in pursuing this opportunity, please submit your application here.

We endeavor to inspire and nurture the next generation of lawyers for Good. We also hope to bring a fresh voice to the table, promoting the law as a powerful tool for positive change.
